XChange WebAccess - Manage Spam and Virus Protection

How does Webland protect my emails from spam and viruses, and how can I adjust the settings?

This article explains the spam and virus protection measures used by Webland and how to manage your anti-spam settings, blacklists, whitelists, and custom email rules on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies to customers who manage their email services through the System Configurator and WebAccess on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

You can access the previous platform at classic.webland.ch.

Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? Please log in through the new Webland website. The following System Configurator instructions do not apply to the new platform.

How does Webland protect my emails?

Webland uses various server-side virus and spam filters to detect and filter unwanted or potentially harmful emails before they reach your inbox.

Virus Protection

The server-side antivirus protection includes the following features:

  • The antivirus software is updated daily.

  • Additional emergency updates are checked every 60 minutes.

  • Antivirus protection is enabled by default for all email accounts.

Spam Protection

Webland's spam filtering engine combines several protection mechanisms, including:

  • Greylisting

  • SpamAssassin

  • Cyren Anti-Spam Live

  • Intrusion Prevention

  • SURBL

The spam filters are continuously updated.

You can also choose between different spam detection levels and adjust the filtering settings according to your needs.

Enable the Spam Folder in WebAccess

You can configure WebAccess to move messages identified as spam into a separate spam folder.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to WebAccess using your email address and password.

  2. Click your profile/picture icon in the upper-right corner and select Settings (Einstellungen).

  3. Navigate to General → Anti-Spam (Allgemein → Anti-Spam).

  4. Enable the Anti-Spam function.

  5. Select Use Spam Folder (Spam-Ordner benutzen).

  6. Confirm your settings by clicking OK.

Once enabled, messages identified as spam will be placed in the spam folder.

Note: Check your spam folder regularly, as legitimate emails may occasionally be incorrectly classified as spam.

Adjust Spam Detection Levels and Enable Greylisting

You can manage the server-side anti-spam settings for your domain through the previous System Configurator.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to the System Configurator using your customer number and password.

  2. Select Hosting / Manage Email (Hosting / E-Mail verwalten).

  3. Click Manage (Verwalten) next to the relevant domain.

  4. Navigate to Email / CloudOffice → Anti-Spam Settings (E-Mail / CloudOffice → Anti-Spam Einstellungen).

  5. Adjust the available spam detection levels and greylisting settings as needed.

Detailed online help for the available settings can be found directly in the System Configurator.

Manage Blacklists and Whitelists

Blacklists and whitelists allow you to control how messages from specific senders are handled.

Blacklist (Blocked Senders)

A blacklist allows you to block unwanted senders. Messages from these senders are handled according to the configured filtering rules.

Whitelist (Allowed Senders)

A whitelist allows you to mark trusted senders as approved, reducing the risk of their messages being incorrectly classified as spam.

Important: Whitelisting a sender does not bypass all security checks. Potentially harmful messages may still be blocked by other protection mechanisms.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to WebAccess using your email account.

  2. Select a message from the relevant sender.

  3. Right-click the message.

  4. Select Manage Sender (Absender verwalten).

  5. Choose one of the following options:

    • Add Sender to Blacklist (Absender auf Blacklist)

    • Add Sender to Whitelist (Absender auf Whitelist)

Create Custom Email Rules

For example, you can filter messages based on:

  • Sender

  • Subject

  • Message content

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to WebAccess using your email account.

  2. Open Settings (Einstellungen).

  3. Navigate to Email → Rules (E-Mail → Regeln).

  4. Create a new rule and define the desired conditions and actions.

  5. Save your settings.
