Do you want to connect your own Microsoft Exchange Server to your Webland email hosting?
This guide explains which settings are required for outgoing email delivery and how to configure your Exchange Server based on your infrastructure.
There are four possible scenarios, depending on whether your Exchange Server uses a static public IP address and whether you want to send emails through the Webland mail server or directly.
Who is this guide for?
This guide applies exclusively to customers who manage their email hosting through the System Configurator on the previous Webland platform (Classic) and operate their own Microsoft Exchange Server.
You can access it at classic.webland.ch.
Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? Then log in via the new Webland website. The following settings do not automatically apply to the new platform.
What is a Microsoft Exchange Server?
A Microsoft Exchange Server is an email server solution from Microsoft used to send, receive and manage business emails.
If you operate your own Exchange Server, you can determine how outgoing emails are delivered.
There are two main options:
Sending through an SMTP relay server: Your Exchange Server forwards outgoing emails to another mail server, such as the Webland mail server.
Direct email delivery: Your Exchange Server connects directly to the recipients' mail servers.
The appropriate configuration depends mainly on your public IP address and existing server infrastructure.
Requirements
To configure your Exchange Server, you need:
Active email hosting on the previous Webland platform (Classic).
Your customer number and customer password.
Access to the Webland System Configurator.
Administrative access to your Microsoft Exchange Server.
Information about whether your Exchange Server uses a static public IP address.
Important: A static public IP address is required to send emails through the Webland SMTP relay server described in this guide.
Overview: Which Scenario Applies to You?
Public IP Address | Sending Method | Required Action |
Static IP address | Through Webland mail server | Register IP address in System Configurator and configure SMTP relay |
Static IP address | Directly through Exchange | No additional Webland relay configuration required |
No static IP address | Through Webland mail server | Not supported; use your internet provider's relay |
No static IP address | Directly through Exchange | No additional Webland relay configuration required |
Scenario 1: Exchange Server with a Static IP Address – Sending Through Webland
If your Exchange Server uses a static public IP address and you want to send outgoing emails through the Webland mail server, you must register this IP address in the System Configurator.
Step 1: Log in to the System Configurator
Open the System Configurator.
Log in using your customer number and customer password.
Step 2: Open email management
Select Hosting / Manage Email from the main menu.
Find the desired domain.
Click Manage next to the corresponding domain.
Step 3: Open Microsoft Exchange Server settings
Select Email / CloudOffice in the upper-right section.
Then click MS Exchange Server.
Step 4: Register your static IP address
Enter the static public IP address of your Exchange Server or its outgoing email connection.
Verify that the IP address is correct.
Click Save Changes.
Step 5: Configure the SMTP relay on your Exchange Server
Configure outgoing email delivery on your Exchange Server using the following SMTP server:
Setting | Value |
SMTP server / Smart Host |
|
SMTP authentication | Disabled |
Requirement | Registered static public IP address |
Important: SMTP authentication must not be enabled for this relay configuration.
Email delivery is authorised using the public IP address registered in the System Configurator.
Make sure your Exchange Server actually uses this IP address for outgoing connections.
Step 6: Test email delivery
After completing the configuration, send a test email to an external email address.
Check whether the message is successfully sent and delivered.
If email delivery fails, verify the registered IP address and SMTP relay settings.
Scenario 2: Exchange Server with a Static IP Address – Direct Email Delivery
If your Exchange Server uses a static public IP address and sends outgoing emails directly to the recipients' mail servers, no additional Webland SMTP relay configuration is required in the System Configurator.
Your Exchange Server handles outgoing email delivery independently.
Note: This assumes that your Exchange Server is already correctly configured for direct SMTP delivery.
Make sure the required network connections are permitted and your DNS settings are correct.
Scenario 3: Exchange Server Without a Static IP Address – Sending Through Webland
If your Exchange Server does not have a static public IP address, you cannot use the Webland mail server described here as an SMTP relay.
Authorisation for this delivery method is based on a registered static public IP address.
Alternative
Use a suitable SMTP relay server provided by your internet service provider (ISP) instead.
Contact your provider for the required settings, such as:
SMTP server hostname
Connection port
Encryption
Authentication
These settings depend on your provider.
Scenario 4: Exchange Server Without a Static IP Address – Direct Email Delivery
If your Exchange Server sends emails directly to recipients' mail servers without a static public IP address, no additional Webland relay configuration is required.
Your own Exchange Server handles the setup and outgoing email delivery.
Important: Although no changes are required in the System Configurator, your Exchange Server must still be configured correctly.
Changing public IP addresses may cause additional restrictions on direct email delivery, for example due to the acceptance policies of other mail servers.
Important Notes
Static public IP address: A static public IP address is required for the described email delivery method using smtp.speedconnect.ch.
SMTP authentication: Authentication must be disabled for this Webland relay configuration.
Verify your IP address: Register the public IP address your Exchange Server actually uses for outgoing email delivery.
Direct email delivery: No additional Webland SMTP relay configuration is required for direct delivery.
DNS settings: Ensure your SPF records and other email authentication mechanisms, such as DKIM and DMARC, are configured appropriately where applicable.
Network access: Make sure the connections required for your chosen delivery method are not blocked by a firewall or your internet service provider.
Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting
Which SMTP server should I use to send emails through Webland?
Use:
smtp.speedconnect.ch
A static public IP address must be registered in the System Configurator.
Do I need to enable SMTP authentication?
No. SMTP authentication must be disabled for the Webland relay configuration described in this guide.
Can I use the Webland mail server without a static IP address?
No. A static public IP address is required for this delivery method.
Alternatively, you can use a suitable SMTP relay server provided by your internet service provider.
Where can I register my static IP address?
Log in to the System Configurator and navigate to:
Hosting / Manage Email → Manage → Email / CloudOffice → MS Exchange Server
Enter your static public IP address and save the changes.
Do I need to change anything if my Exchange Server sends emails directly?
No additional Webland relay configuration is required for direct email delivery.
However, your Exchange Server must be correctly configured for direct SMTP delivery.
Why is outgoing email delivery through Webland not working?
Possible reasons include:
The registered public IP address is incorrect.
Your Exchange Server uses a different outgoing public IP address.
SMTP authentication is enabled.
The SMTP server hostname is incorrect.
A firewall or network setting is blocking the connection.
Review your settings and perform another email delivery test.
Tip
If your Exchange Server sends emails through the Webland mail server, check that the registered public IP address is still correct after changes to your internet connection or firewall.
If the IP address no longer matches, email delivery through the relay may stop working.
Done! You now know how to configure your Microsoft Exchange Server for outgoing email delivery through Webland and which settings are required for your infrastructure.
