System Configurator: Edit DNS Zone File

How can I edit my domain's DNS records in the System Configurator?

This guide explains how to access and manage your domain's DNS zone file on the previous Webland platform (Classic). Through DNS management, you can modify important domain settings, including those used for your website, emails, and subdomains.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to customers who manage their domain through the System Configurator on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

You can access it at classic.webland.ch.

Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? Then log in via the new Webland website. The following steps do not apply to the new platform.

What is a DNS Zone File?

A DNS zone file contains the DNS records associated with your domain. These records determine which servers your domain points to and how certain services can be reached.

Common DNS record types include:

  • A Record: Maps a domain or subdomain to an IPv4 address.

  • AAAA Record: Maps a domain or subdomain to an IPv6 address.

  • MX Record: Specifies which mail servers receive emails for your domain.

  • CNAME Record: Points one DNS name to another DNS name.

  • TXT Record: Used for purposes such as SPF, DKIM, or service verification.

By editing the DNS zone file, you can adjust the corresponding DNS settings for your domain.

Request DNS Changes Through Webland Support

Would you prefer not to edit your DNS zone file yourself?

No problem. You can send the requested changes to our support team through an authenticated message in the System Configurator.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to the System Configurator.

  2. Select Customer Account from the menu.

  3. Click Send Authenticated Message.

  4. Describe which DNS records you would like to change.

Please provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • Domain: The affected domain.

  • DNS type: For example, A, MX, CNAME, or TXT.

  • Hostname: The DNS name to which the record applies.

  • Value: The desired IP address, target hostname, or TXT value.

  • Requested change: Whether the record should be added, modified, or deleted.

Our support team can review your request and make the necessary adjustments based on the information provided.

Important Notes

  • Nameservers: Changes to the Webland DNS zone file affect public DNS resolution only when Webland operates the authoritative nameservers for your domain.

  • DNS changes: Changes may not become visible everywhere immediately. Depending on DNS caching and TTL values, it may take some time for updated records to take effect.

  • Email settings: Incorrect MX, SPF, or other relevant DNS records may affect email delivery.

  • Website accessibility: Incorrect A, AAAA, or CNAME records may prevent your website from being accessed correctly.

  • Careful review: Check your existing DNS records before making changes.

Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting

Where can I edit my DNS zone file?

Log in to the System Configurator and navigate to:

Hosting / Manage Email → Manage → DNS

There you will find the DNS management section for your domain.

Can I add new DNS records?

Yes. If the corresponding function is available for your domain, you can create additional records through DNS management.

Make sure you use the correct DNS record type and values.

Why are my DNS changes not visible immediately?

DNS information is cached by various servers and services.

As a result, it may take some time before updated DNS records are used everywhere.

Why are my DNS changes not taking effect?

Check whether your domain is using Webland's nameservers.

If your domain uses external nameservers, DNS records generally need to be updated through the corresponding DNS provider.

Can Webland update my DNS records for me?

Yes. If you prefer not to make the changes yourself, you can send us the required information through an authenticated message in the System Configurator.

Our support team will review your request and assist you with the necessary adjustments.

Tip

Before making major DNS changes, keep a copy of your existing records. This allows you to restore the previous values if necessary.

If you are unsure about a DNS record, contact our support team before making changes.

Done! You now know where to edit your domain's DNS zone file on the previous Webland platform and how to request DNS changes through Webland Support if needed.
