System Configurator: Send Emails via Scripts

Which SMTP server can I use to send emails through scripts or web applications?

This guide explains how to send emails through scripts, web applications, or contact forms on the previous Webland platform (Classic). You will also learn which SMTP server to use, what requirements must be met, and how to add your own sender address to the whitelist.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to customers who manage their hosting through the System Configurator on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

You can access it at classic.webland.ch.

Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? Then log in via the new Webland website. The following steps do not apply to the new platform.

Requirements

To send emails through scripts or web applications, the following requirements must be met:

  • You have an active hosting subscription on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

  • You use a web application, script, or contact form that can send emails.

  • You have access to your application's SMTP settings.

  • At least one of the sender or recipient address requirements described below is met.

Which SMTP server should I use?

Webland provides a dedicated SMTP server for sending emails through scripts and web applications.

Use the following settings:

  • SMTP server: msscript1.webland.ch

  • Server name to enter in your application: msscript1 (without the domain name)

Important: Enter msscript1 without the domain name in your web application's SMTP settings.

Requirements for Sending Emails

To send emails through the SMTP server, at least one of the following conditions must be met:

Option 1: Valid sender address (From)

The sender address must be a valid email address or email alias configured with Webland.

Option 2: Valid recipient address (To)

Alternatively, the recipient address must be a valid email address or email alias configured with Webland.

Note: Only one of these two conditions needs to be met.

If neither requirement can be met, for example because you operate your own mail server, you can authorise your sender address by adding it to the whitelist.

Step-by-Step Instructions: Add a Sender Address to the Whitelist

1. Log in to the System Configurator

  1. Log in using your customer number and customer password.

2. Access the email sending settings

  1. Navigate to Webserver.

  2. Select Email Sending via App.

3. Add your sender address to the whitelist

  1. Open the whitelist settings.

  2. Add the desired sender email address to the whitelist.

  3. Apply the configuration using the available options in the System Configurator.

Once the configuration has been completed successfully, you can use the authorised sender address to send emails through your scripts or web applications.

Important Notes

  • SMTP server: Use the designated server msscript1 to send emails through scripts and web applications.

  • Sender address: The sender address must be configured with Webland or authorised accordingly, unless the recipient address already meets the requirements.

  • Recipient address: Alternatively, a valid recipient address or email alias configured with Webland is sufficient.

  • Whitelist: If you use an external sender address that does not meet the standard requirements, you can authorise it in the System Configurator.

Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting

Why are emails from my script not being sent?

First, check whether you have entered the correct SMTP server in your application.

Then verify that at least one of the following conditions is met:

  • The sender address is configured with Webland.

  • The recipient address is configured with Webland.

  • The desired sender address has been added to the whitelist.

Can I use an external sender address?

Yes. If your sender address is not configured with Webland and the recipient address also does not meet the required conditions, you can add the desired sender address to the whitelist under Webserver → Email Sending via App in the System Configurator.

Do both the sender and recipient addresses need to be configured with Webland?

No. It is sufficient if at least one of the two addresses is a valid email address or alias configured with Webland.

Alternatively, you can authorise a sender address through the whitelist.

Where can I find the whitelist settings?

Log in to the System Configurator and navigate to:

Webserver → Email Sending via App

There you can add the desired sender address to the whitelist.

Tip

When setting up a contact form or web application, check the SMTP configuration and the sender and recipient addresses before putting it into operation.

This helps you identify potential email delivery issues at an early stage.

Done! You now know which SMTP server to use for sending emails through scripts and how to add your own sender address to the whitelist if needed.
