Essential Hosting: Setting Up and Managing Email Forwarding

Learn how to forward incoming emails automatically to one or more recipient addresses, add recipients and delete forwarding rules.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to Essential Mail included with Basis Hosting on the new Webland platform (WHMCS). Forwarding is managed directly in the client area, without cPanel.

Do you use the System Configurator or Domain Manager? Sign in at classic.webland.ch. The steps below do not apply to the classic Webland platform.

Does your hosting use cPanel? Set up forwarding through the email management section in cPanel.

What is email forwarding?

Email forwarding sends messages addressed to an address on your domain to another email address.

Address for incoming emails

Forwarding destination

You can also add multiple recipients. Incoming messages are then forwarded to the listed destination addresses.

A forwarding-only address is not a mailbox. It has no separate webmail login and does not store messages itself. Check destination addresses carefully and make sure the recipient mailboxes can receive emails.

Requirements

  • You have an active Essential Mail service on the new Webland platform.

  • Your domain is assigned to the email service.

  • You are signed in to the client area.

  • Your user has the required permissions to manage the email service.

  • The intended destination address exists and can receive emails.

1. Open the email service

  1. Open Services in the main menu of the client area.

  2. Find the Email Hosting service associated with the relevant domain.

  3. Click View Details.

This opens the email service’s management page.

2. Open forwarding management

Click Manage Email Forwarders.

Here, you can find existing forwarding rules and the section for adding a new one.

3. Create a forwarding rule

Go to the Add New section:

  1. Enter the address on your domain whose incoming emails should be forwarded.

  2. Enter the recipient address that should receive those messages.

  3. Check both addresses.

  4. Click Add Email Forwarder.

The new rule appears under Existing Email Forwarders.

It may take a few minutes to become active.

4. Add more recipients

To forward incoming messages to multiple addresses:

  1. Find the rule under Existing Email Forwarders.

  2. Click the arrow next to the relevant rule to expand it.

  3. Enter the additional recipient’s email address.

  4. Click Add Additional Recipient.

Then check that all intended recipients are listed in the overview.

5. Test the forwarding rule

  1. Send a test message from another email address to the forwarding address.

  2. Check that the message arrives at every listed recipient.

  3. Check their spam or junk folders if necessary.

6. Delete a forwarding rule

  1. Find the relevant rule under Existing Email Forwarders.

  2. Click its trash icon.

  3. Check which entry you are removing in the confirmation window.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

After deletion, new messages will no longer be delivered through this forwarding rule. Messages already delivered to recipient mailboxes remain there.

Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting

Email forwarding is not working.

Check that:

  • The forwarding rule appears in the overview.

  • The forwarding address and destination address are spelled correctly.

  • The recipient mailbox is active and can receive emails.

  • The domain uses Essential Mail for incoming email.

For a newly created rule, wait a few minutes and test again.

The test message does not arrive.

Check the recipient’s spam or junk folder. Also send a message directly to the destination address to check whether that mailbox can receive emails.

If the problem continues, contact our support team. Include the forwarding address, destination address, sending time and any error message.

I want to forward emails and also keep them in the original mailbox.

A forwarding-only address does not store a local copy. Whether a mailbox with the same address can be used alongside forwarding, with messages retained there, needs to be checked for your service. Contact our support team for assistance.
