cPanel: Backing Up and Restoring WordPress with WP Toolkit

Learn how to create a backup of your WordPress website and restore an earlier version when needed.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to customers whose hosting with cPanel is managed on the new Webland platform (WHMCS) and whose WP Toolkit includes the “Back Up / Restore” feature.

Do you use Essential Hosting without cPanel? This guide does not apply to your plan. Use the management features available for your service in the client area.

Do you use the System Configurator or Domain Manager? Sign in at classic.webland.ch. The steps below do not apply to the classic Webland platform.

Important information

A WP Toolkit backup covers the selected WordPress website. It is not a complete backup of your hosting account and does not include your email mailboxes, for example.

Restoring a backup returns the website to the state captured in that backup. Later changes may be lost, including new posts, uploaded images, user registrations or orders in a WordPress shop.

Back up the current state before restoring an older backup.

Requirements

  • You have access to cPanel and WP Toolkit.

  • The relevant WordPress installation appears in WP Toolkit.

  • The Back Up / Restore feature is available.

  • There is sufficient storage for new backups.

  • To perform a restore, a suitable backup is available in the backup list.

1. Sign in to cPanel

  1. Open the home page (dashboard) in the Webland client area.

  2. Find the hosting plan containing the relevant WordPress website.

  3. Click Log in to cPanel.

You will be redirected to cPanel through automatic sign-in.

2. Open backup management

  1. Open WordPress Management or WP Toolkit in cPanel.

  2. Find the relevant WordPress installation.

  3. Check the displayed domain and, where applicable, the installation path.

  4. Click Back Up / Restore for that installation.

This opens the available backups for the selected website.

3. Create a new backup

  1. Click Back Up.

  2. Wait for the backup process to finish.

  3. Check that the new backup appears in the list.

Note the date and time so you can identify the backup later.

Create a current backup before updates, plugin installations or major changes.

4. Restore an existing backup

Open Back Up / Restore for the relevant website.

  1. Use the date and time to select the version you want to restore.

  2. Make sure you have backed up the current state separately.

  3. Click the Restore icon next to the selected backup.

  4. Review the details and notices in the confirmation window.

  5. Click Restore.

WP Toolkit restores the website to the selected backup state. Wait for confirmation that the process is complete.

5. Check the restored website

Open the website and check that:

  • The expected pages and content are displayed.

  • You can sign in to the WordPress administration area.

  • Important features, such as forms or the shop, work.

In particular, check which content and changes made after the backup date are missing and may need to be added again.

Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting

I cannot find “Back Up / Restore”.

Check that you have opened the correct installation in WP Toolkit and that the feature is available for your hosting. If it is missing, contact our support team.

My backup is not listed.

Check that you selected the correct WordPress installation and that the backup completed successfully. Backups created with other tools do not automatically appear in this list.

The backup or restore fails.

Check the displayed error message and available storage. If you need help, provide our support team with the domain, the time of the operation and the exact error message.

Will new orders or posts still exist after the restore?

Data added after the selected backup was created is not included in that backup and may be lost during restoration. Review this data before starting and back up the current state separately.

No suitable backup is available.

This feature can only restore existing backups. Contact our support team to check whether another backup or recovery option is available.
