System Configurator: Change the Primary Domain Name of Your Hosting

How can I change the domain name for my hosting?

Here you will learn how to request a change to the primary domain name of your hosting on the previous Webland platform (Classic), which requirements must be met and what you should consider during the change.

Who does this guide apply to?

This guide applies exclusively to customers who manage their hosting through the System Configurator on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

You can access it at classic.webland.ch. Use your existing login credentials.

Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? If so, log in via the new Webland website. The following steps do not apply to the new platform.

Requirements

  • You have an active hosting package on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

  • You have your customer number and customer password.

  • The new domain name you wish to use is registered in your name.

  • The DNS records of the new domain are correctly configured for use with your Webland hosting.

1. Open the System Configurator

  1. Select System Configurator.

  2. Enter your customer number and customer password.

  3. Log in using your credentials.

After successfully logging in, you will be directed to the System Configurator, where you can manage your hosting settings.

2. Request a change to the primary domain name

To change the primary domain name, you must send an authenticated message to Webland Support.

  1. In the System Configurator, open the "Customer Account" menu.

  2. Click "Send Authenticated Message".

  3. Provide both your current domain name and the new domain name you wish to use.

  4. Request a change to the primary domain name of your hosting.

  5. Submit your message.

3. Important information about changing your domain

Before requesting the change, please consider the following points:

  • Domain registration: The new domain name must already be registered in your name.

  • DNS settings: The DNS records of the new domain must correctly point to your Webland hosting.

  • Hosting assignment: The change only affects the primary domain name associated with your hosting.

  • Existing domain: The registration of your current domain remains unaffected by this change.

Important: An already registered domain name cannot simply be renamed. If you want to use a different domain name, you must register it separately.

If you no longer need your previous domain, you can cancel its registration independently of the hosting change.

4. Consider the technical implications

After changing the primary domain name, additional adjustments to your website or services may be required.

This may include:

  • Content Management Systems (CMS): Updating the configured website address, for example in WordPress.

  • Website configuration: Updating internal links, redirects or file paths.

  • Email configuration: Reviewing existing email addresses and settings if they are associated with the previous domain.

  • SSL certificates: Checking whether a valid SSL certificate is available for the new domain name.

Attention: Changing the primary domain name does not automatically update all settings of your website or email services.

We therefore recommend discussing the change with your webmaster or developer in advance to ensure that your website and related services continue to function correctly.
