System Configurator: Issue an SSL Certificate

How can I issue a free SSL certificate for my website and enable HTTPS redirection?

This guide explains how to issue a free SSL certificate for your website on the previous Webland platform (Classic) and enable automatic HTTPS redirection. An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between your website and its visitors.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to customers who manage their hosting through the System Configurator on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

You can access it at classic.webland.ch.

Are you already using the new Webland platform (WHMCS)? Then log in via the new Webland website. The following steps do not apply to the new platform.

Requirements

To issue an SSL certificate, the following requirements must be met:

  • You have an active hosting subscription on the previous Webland platform (Classic).

  • You know your customer number and customer password.

  • Your domain is registered with Webland or the corresponding A record points to the Webland server IP address.

  • The requirements for issuing the certificate are confirmed by a green checkmark in the System Configurator.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log in to the System Configurator

  1. Log in using your customer number and customer password.

2. Select the desired domain

  1. Select Hosting / Manage Email from the menu.

  2. Find the domain for which you want to issue an SSL certificate.

  3. Click Manage next to the corresponding domain.

3. Access SSL/TLS certificates

  1. Navigate to SSL / TLS Certificates.

  2. You will see an overview of issued and not yet issued SSL certificates.

4. Issue a free SSL certificate

  1. Find your domain in the Unissued SSL Certificates section.

  2. Check whether all requirements are met. These are indicated by a green checkmark.

  3. Click Issue Certificate(s) to start the issuance process.

Important: Issuing the certificate may take a few minutes. If the certificate does not appear immediately, wait up to 30 minutes and then refresh the page.

5. Enable automatic HTTPS redirection (Force SSL)

Once your SSL certificate has been issued, you can enable automatic HTTPS redirection.

  1. Find your domain in the Issued SSL Certificates section.

  2. Enable the Force SSL option by selecting the corresponding checkbox.

  3. Click Save to apply the changes.

Enabling Force SSL automatically redirects visitors from the unencrypted HTTP version to the encrypted HTTPS version of your website.

Important Notes

  • SSL encryption: An SSL certificate enables an encrypted connection between your visitors' browsers and your website.

  • HTTPS redirection: The Force SSL option ensures that visitors are automatically redirected to the HTTPS version of your website.

  • DNS settings: To issue the certificate, your domain must correctly point to the Webland server IP address.

  • Processing time: Issuing an SSL certificate may take a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting

Why can't I issue an SSL certificate?

Check whether your domain is registered with Webland or whether the corresponding A record points to the Webland server IP address.

Also verify that all requirements in the Unissued SSL Certificates section are confirmed by a green checkmark.

What should I do if my SSL certificate is not issued?

Wait up to 30 minutes and then refresh the page in the System Configurator.

If the certificate still cannot be issued, contact Webland Support.

What does Force SSL mean?

Force SSL enables automatic redirection from HTTP to HTTPS.

This ensures that visitors are automatically redirected to the encrypted version of your website.

Do I need to enable Force SSL?

Issuing an SSL certificate and enabling HTTPS redirection are two separate steps.

We recommend enabling Force SSL to ensure that visitors automatically use the encrypted HTTPS connection.

Tip

After issuing your SSL certificate and enabling Force SSL, you can access your website in your browser using https://.

You can also check whether accessing your website via http:// automatically redirects you to the HTTPS version.

Done! Your SSL certificate has been issued, and with Force SSL enabled, your website will automatically be accessed via HTTPS.
