Use File Manager in cPanel to upload files directly from your computer to your hosting. No separate FTP application is required.
This guide explains how to select the correct destination directory, upload files and check the result.
Who is this guide for?
This guide applies exclusively to customers whose hosting is managed on the new Webland platform (WHMCS) and whose hosting plan includes cPanel.
Essential Hosting without cPanel: This guide does not apply to your hosting.
Previous platform using System Configurator or Domain Manager: Sign in at classic.webland.ch. The steps below do not apply to that platform.
Important information
Directories cannot be uploaded directly. Create the directory in File Manager first, then upload the files into it.
Check existing filenames. If the destination already contains a file with the same name, it may be overwritten during upload. Back up existing files before deliberately replacing them.
Choose the correct website directory. Files in a publicly accessible website directory may be available on the internet. Do not upload confidential documents or backups there.
Requirements
Before you begin, make sure you:
Have access to your cPanel hosting service.
Have the files saved on your computer.
Know which website and directory the files belong to.
Step 1: Sign in to cPanel
Find your hosting service in the active services overview in the client area.
Click “Log in to cPanel”.
You will be signed in to cPanel automatically.
Step 2: Open File Manager
Open the “Files” section in cPanel and click “File Manager”.
Your hosting account’s file overview will open.
Step 3: Select the destination directory
Use the directory structure on the left to navigate to the desired destination.
The main website’s files are often stored in public_html. Additional domains may use a different website directory. Check which directory belongs to the relevant domain.
If you need a new subdirectory:
Open the parent directory.
Click “+ Folder”.
Enter the folder name and confirm its creation.
Open the new folder.
Step 4: Upload files
Click “Upload” in the toolbar.
Check the displayed destination path.
Drag the files into the upload window. Alternatively, click “Select File” and choose a file on your computer.
Wait until all uploads have finished. Keep the upload window open until then.
Click “Go Back” to return to the destination directory.
Only confirm overwriting an existing file if you intend to replace it.
Step 5: Check the upload
Check that the uploaded files appear in the destination directory. Refresh the file list if necessary.
If the files should be publicly accessible, open the relevant page or file address in your browser. Make sure the filename matches exactly, including capitalisation.
Troubleshooting
The uploaded file does not appear
Refresh the file list and check that you opened the correct destination directory. Confirm that the upload completed successfully.
The upload fails
Check the displayed error message, your internet connection, available storage and any upload size limit shown.
The file is in File Manager but cannot be accessed in the browser
Check that it is in the correct domain’s website directory and that the address matches the file’s location.
The old content still appears after replacing a file
Clear your browser cache and, where applicable, your website or CDN cache. Then test again.
