cPanel: Block and unblock IP addresses

Use IP Blocker in cPanel to restrict access to your website from individual IP addresses or entire IP ranges. This guide explains how to add, review and remove these restrictions.

Who is this guide for?

This guide applies exclusively to customers whose hosting is managed on the new Webland platform (WHMCS) and whose hosting plan includes cPanel.

Essential Hosting without cPanel: This guide does not apply to your hosting.

Previous platform using System Configurator or Domain Manager: Sign in at classic.webland.ch. The steps below do not apply to that platform.

Important information

IP Blocker restricts access to your website. It does not block access to email or webmail, and it does not block email senders.

If you enter a domain name, cPanel attempts to resolve it to an IP address and block that address. This does not automatically block visitors who follow a link from that domain to your website.

Check the range carefully: An overly broad restriction can also block legitimate visitors or your own IP address.

Requirements

Before you begin, make sure you:

  • Are signed in to the client area on the new Webland platform.

  • Have access to your cPanel hosting service and IP Blocker.

  • Know the IP address or range you want to block.

Step 1: Sign in to cPanel

  1. Find your hosting service in the active services overview in the client area.

  2. Click “Log in to cPanel”.

You will be signed in to cPanel automatically.

Step 2: Open IP Blocker

  1. Open the “Security” section in cPanel.

  2. Click “IP Blocker”.

Here you can add new restrictions and manage existing ones.

Step 3: Block an IP address or range

  1. Enter the address or range in the “IP Address or Domain” field.

  2. Check that your entry covers exactly the address or range you want to block.

  3. Click “Add”.

The following formats are supported. These examples are for illustration only:

Format

Example

Effect

Single IP address

192.0.2.33

Blocks this IP address only.

IP range

192.0.2.3-192.0.2.40

Blocks all addresses from .3 to .40.

Shortened IP range

192.0.2.3-40

Blocks the same range as above.

CIDR format

192.0.2.0/24

Blocks the range from 192.0.2.0 to 192.0.2.255.

Partial IP address

192.0.2.

Blocks all IP addresses beginning with 192.0.2..

cPanel displays a confirmation after adding the restriction. Click “Go Back” to return to the overview.

Step 4: Review existing restrictions

The “Currently-Blocked IP Addresses” section lists your restrictions.

The overview shows the server’s representation of each restriction, along with the beginning and ending IP addresses of the range. A range you entered may be split into several entries.

Use these details to check which addresses are blocked.

Step 5: Remove a restriction

  1. Find the entry under “Currently-Blocked IP Addresses”.

  2. Click “Delete” in the “Actions” column.

  3. Click “Remove IP” to confirm.

The selected restriction is removed. If another rule or a larger blocked range also covers the IP address, access will remain blocked.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find IP Blocker

Check that you have opened the correct hosting service with cPanel. If the feature is unavailable, contact Webland Support.

I blocked my own IP address

Open IP Blocker through cPanel and remove the relevant restriction. Also check whether your IP address falls within a blocked range.

Access is still blocked after removing the restriction

Check whether other entries cover the same IP address. Other security features may also restrict access. If you cannot identify the cause, contact Webland Support.

I want to block an email sender

IP Blocker does not provide this function. Use your email service’s filtering or spam settings.
