Learn how to create a database in cPanel and make it available to your website or application. Manage My Databases also lets you manage existing databases, database users and their permissions.
Who is this guide for?
This guide applies exclusively to customers whose hosting with cPanel is managed on the new Webland platform (WHMCS).
Do you use Essential Hosting without cPanel? Follow the guide “Essential Hosting: Creating and Managing Databases”.
Do you use the System Configurator or Domain Manager? Sign in at classic.webland.ch. The steps below do not apply to the classic Webland platform.
Important information
For your first setup, we recommend Database Wizard. It guides you through creating the database and user and assigning permissions.
With Manage My Databases, you create the database separately and then assign a user to it.
Create databases and database users through these cPanel tools. Use phpMyAdmin for content, SQL queries and imports or exports of existing databases. Creating databases or users directly in phpMyAdmin can leave them incorrectly associated in cPanel and affect backups or restoration.
Requirements
You have an active hosting service with cPanel and database functionality.
You have access to cPanel and Manage My Databases.
Your plan has capacity for another database.
Whether MySQL or MariaDB is used depends on your hosting server’s configuration.
1. Sign in to cPanel
Open the home page (dashboard) in the Webland client area.
Find the relevant hosting plan under your active services.
Click Log in to cPanel.
You will be redirected to cPanel through automatic sign-in.
2. Open database management
In cPanel, open Manage My Databases under Databases.
Alternatively, use the cPanel search.
This page contains the sections for creating and managing databases and database users.
3. Create a new database
Find the Create New Database section.
Enter the desired name in the New Database field.
Click Create Database.
Wait for confirmation, then click Go Back.
The database appears under Current Databases.
Choose a descriptive name, such as website or shop. If cPanel adds an account prefix, it forms part of the full database name. Use the complete name from the overview in your application.
5. Manage existing databases and content
Under Current Databases, you will find your databases and their assigned users. Manage existing database users under Current Users.
To edit tables or content:
Return to the cPanel home page.
Open phpMyAdmin under Databases.
Select the relevant database.
You can then edit tables and data, run SQL queries, and import or export data.
Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting
I cannot create another database.
Check whether you have reached your plan’s database limit. Also review the displayed error message.
My application cannot access the database database.
Check the full database name, username, password and database server address. Make sure the user is assigned to the correct database and has the required permissions.
I cannot find “Manage My Databases”.
Search for the feature using the cPanel search. If it is missing, contact our support team and specify your hosting plan.
I would prefer guided setup.
